Rueda de Prensa Tapapiés 2023

New edition of Tapapiés

Nueva edición de Tapapiés

From 19 to 29 October, Madrid’s traditional neighbourhood will become the city’s gastronomic epicentre with the Tapapiés festival, which will be held in Lavapiés for the thirteenth consecutive year.

La Casa Encendida is the chosen venue for the opening ceremony on 19 October, which will be promoted by Madrid City Council through the presence of Carlos Segura Gutiérrez, councillor president of the Centro district, and Concha Díaz de Villegas, director general of Commerce, Catering and Consumer Affairs of the Department of Economy, Innovation and Finance. The inauguration will also be attended by the board of directors of the DISTRITO 12 association, Hugo Chan, master brewer and the participating restaurateurs in Lavapiés.

THE MADRID CITY COUNCIL REAFFIRMS ITS COMMITMENT TO THE LOCAL HOSPITALITY INDUSTRY

Since its launch in 2011, Tapapiés, an initiative of the Lavapiés neighbourhood traders’ association, DISTRITO 12, has become a benchmark for boosting shopping and hospitality throughout the city.

The Madrid City Council promotes this event in an institutional and informative way through the Madrid Capital de Moda and Todo está en Madrid projects, and through the subsidies granted to the organising entity through the different calls for proposals managed by the Directorate General for Trade, Catering and Consumer Affairs.

The main objective is to make the city’s commerce and hospitality industry the focus of public policies in the city of Madrid, which is why different strategies such as digitalisation, training and the sustainability of local commerce are promoted. In order to boost these sectors, public-private collaboration is essential as it helps Madrid to position itself more and more as a fashion capital and shopping destination.

THE MARKETS OF MADRID AT TAPAPIÉS

As in previous editions, in 2023 the San Fernando and Antón Martín markets will participate in Tapapiés presenting their tapas. So that everyone can taste the different tapas, the participating bars and restaurants will also offer vegan, vegetarian and gluten-free tapas, as well as those that highlight the most traditional flavours.

TAPAPIÉS: a festival full of music and flavour

Every year the participants in Tapapiés do their utmost to create new proposals to conquer the palate of the public who will be invited to enjoy the event from Thursday 19th October until Sunday 29th.

Tapapiés is much more than a gastronomic event, it is an authentic festival with live music in the different neighbourhood squares. If there is one thing that distinguishes Tapapiés from other similar events, it is the wide variety of its gastronomic suggestions, as the different tapas presented by the neighbourhood’s establishments allow you to travel around the world.

With the collaboration of the beer brand El Águila, more than 100 bars and restaurants in the traditional neighbourhood will offer an exclusive tapa accompanied by a bottle of El Águila 1900 for €3.

In addition, during the ten days of Tapapiés, Lavapiés will host 30 free outdoor performances such as street parades, concerts and children’s entertainment during the weekends of 20-22 and 27-29 October during midday (13h30) and evening (20h30).

All the events will take place in Arturo Barea, Nelson Mandela, and Lavapiés squares, as well as in Argumosa and Miguel Servet streets, while on Saturdays from 5pm concerts will be held in Plaza de Cascorro. Different groups such as BossaNjazz, Violante Blues, Kinfloks or One Day Workers, among others, will liven up the festival, as well as the batucadas and charangas offered by bands such as Bloca Manglar, Hakuna Ma Samba or CombinArte.

So now you know, between 19 and 29 October you have a date in Lavapiés with the flavours and music of the world without leaving the city. Discover Tapapiés 2023!
