In 2007, the 1st International Congress on fashion in the Hapsburg period was held in Madrid, and in 2024, the aim is to continue this initiative with a new congress entitled Vestir a la francesa o a la española. La Moda del siglo XVII en España. (Dressing in French or Spanish style. 17th Century Fashion in Spain.)
This event will take place in a face-to-face format from 18 to 20 September 2024. Between 18 and 19 September it will be held at the Museo del Traje and on 20 September it will be the last day at the Museo del Traje.
This new edition will analyse in depth all aspects of clothing in the Bourbon era. Academics, teachers and students will have the opportunity to come together to present, debate and examine the fashion of the Enlightenment in Spain, as well as its relevance in other areas such as art, economics and industry.
Organised by the University of Navarra, the Museo del Traje and the Asociación de Amigos del Museo del Traje, with the collaboration of the Museo del Traje, Casa Velázquez and the Sociedad Española de Estudios del Siglo XVIII, the conference Vestir a la francesa o a la española. La Moda del siglo XVII en España will turn Madrid into the international capital of fashion from 18 to 20 September 2024.

Various leading specialists from museums, universities and prestigious European and American research centres will give different talks on a variety of subjects from a critical and academic perspective.
Some of the subjects to be analysed will be the representation of fashion in art, materials and textile techniques, the evolution of both men’s and women’s fashion and the fashion media.
If you are involved in fashion research and would like to participate in this congress, you can do so before 30 April 2024.
If your proposal is accepted, you will have 15 minutes to make your presentation during the congress.
To participate you must send a proposal 📩 to congresomoda18@gmail.com . This should consist of a 150-word abstract, a 50-word biography of the speaker and a representative image of the topic, which can be used to illustrate the final programme. Contributions may be in both English and Spanish.
Remember that next September you have an appointment at the Museo del Traje and the Museo del Prado with 18th century fashion in Spain.
