The best of the 72st edition of MBFW Madrid

Lo mejor de la 71ª edición de MBFW Madrid

This 2020 is being extremely different, due to the consequences of the health crisis, however, thanks to the talent, work and enthusiasm of Spanish creators, Madrid has once again become the capital of fashion during the 72nd edition of Mercedes Benz Fashion Week.

As on previous occasions since 2010, one of the most important fashion events in our country has been accompanied by the Madrid Es Moda festival, an initiative of the Association of Fashion Creators of Spain.

This Madrid is Moda has had a special format in which Slow Fashion has been the protagonist. The movement that advocates sustainable techniques and the recovery of craftsmanship when creating fashion collections has had a strong presence in the work of Spanish designers. For its various days, the festival has conducted a series of interviews with designers commenting on their particular way of understanding Slow Fashion, and also the presentation of their new collections in fashion film format.

Due to sanitary circumstances, Madrid Capital de Moda has wanted to prioritize the safety of both Madrilenians and visitors, and has dispensed with the installation of its giant screen in the Margaret Thatcher square next to the Colón square to take fashion out of the street . However, our website has been a window open to both Madrid es Moda and MBFW Madrid, projecting the audiovisual materials prepared to celebrate this edition of the festival, in addition to the live and streaming broadcast of the fashion shows held at the venue. Ifema between September 10 and 13.

One of the creators who has shown his new clothes belonging to the Spring season | Summer 2021, it was Maison Mesa. The couturier has taken us to the famous cabinet of Dr. Caligari with his Das Cabinet collection, full of flowing garments, which has had the presence of the actress Mariola Fuentes and the dancer Rafael Amargo, who have starred in the performance made during the parade in Ifema .

The designer Pilar Dalbat traveled to the Nave Intermediae del Matadero to present the second part of her collection celebrating her 20-year career. In it you could see delicate garments that speak of a summer of tranquility and good times by the sea.

Flamenco has been very present on the catwalk for both Pertegaz and Isabel Sanchís, who took us to the Andalusian patios full of flowers with their dresses adorned with ruffles, their polka dot patterns and their Cordovan hats as headdresses.

For their part, both Malne and Marcos Luengo rescued the spirit of the seventies, the former through the disco spirit that could be seen in their glitter garments, and the latter with their prints and relaxed silhouettes that gave freedom to the figure.

Hollywood’s glamour and its stars have been especially present in this edition: Ángel Schlesser, a brand that has been condecorated with the L’Oreal Paris award for the best collection, seems to have been inspired by greats such as Grace Kelly or Katherine Hepburn, while the another Hepburn, Audrey could be seen in the subtle garments of Devota & Lomba, and the particular Ágatha Ruiz de la Prada has rescued the fabulous Carmen Miranda through her vibrant palette and her turbans.

The rest of the collection has been a wonderful example of the talent of its creators and their interpretation of Haute Couture from their own influences. It is almost impossible to keep something in particular from this edition, the most special in many years, in which one of the most important events for design in our country has taken place thanks to the talent and work of everyone have made it possible, so we are more impatient than ever to see what the next edition holds.
