Cartela con fechas de la exposición Invitadas

Invitadas. Fragments on women, ideology and plastic arts in Spain (1833-1931), is the first exhibition organized by the Museo Nacional del Prado after its reopening.

It is a unique sample that, through painting, wants to reflect on the way in which the role of women was seen by society, through the visual arts, from the reign of Isabel II to that of her grandson Alfonso XIII.

The exhibition bears that title because it shows how between the nineteenth and twentieth centuries, women were only a “guest” in the painting of the time, showing from the bourgeois image that can be seen in the canvases of Baldomero Gili and Roig or the recovery of the medieval queens portrayed by José María de Madrazo, as he did with Juana de Castilla, popularly known as Juana La Loca, passing of course by all the women of the working class such as the work ‘La bestia humana’ (The human beast), by Antonio Fillol Granell (1897).

In its intention to give greater visibility to women in art, it also has paintings by authors such as Marisa Roësset, or Elena Brokmann de Llanos, among other female names until now practically unknown within the panorama of Spanish painting.

You already know, discover this unrepeatable exhibition that you can visit at the Prado Museum until March 14, 2021.
