Sala de la exposición Cine y Moda por Jean Paul Gaultier

Cinema & Fashion by Jean Paul Gaultier

Cinema and Fashion by Jean Paul Gaultier is an exhibition co-organized by the La Caixa Foundation and La Cinémathèque française located in Caixa Forum that can be visited until June 5. The exhibition proposes a journey through time through the history of cinema and its genres hand in hand with fashion. The designer Jean Paul Gaultier reflects on the symbiosis between these two arts through a journey through the different trends that have been seen in some of the most important films of the 20th century. The exhibition has more than 100 pieces of clothing that can be seen in 80 looks, as well as videos with fragments of more than 90 films and 125 graphic representations including posters, sketches, frames and photographs.

tribute to spanish cinema

Spanish cinema has a high presence in this exhibition developed by Jean Paul Gaultier, not only because of the French designer’s professional relationship with our country, but also because of his professional relationship since he has collaborated on different occasions with the filmmaker Pedro Almodóvar creating pieces for movies like ‘Bad Education’ or ‘Kika’. Other great figures of our cinematography are present in this exhibition as fashion references such as Sara Montiel or Penélope Cruz with the faralaes dress created for the 1998 film by Fernando Trueba: ‘La Niña de Tus Ojos’.

fashion as the main character

In the Fashion Shows Room you can see, among other proposals, dresses from great films such as the black dress worn by Audrey Hepburn in ‘Breakfast at Tiffany’s’ or the one worn by Grace Kelly in ‘Rear Window’. The cinema has given numerous examples of films set in the world of haute couture and, on the other hand, from the 1980s, fashion shows became authentic spectacles by giving greater importance to the relationship between scenery, music, designs and the models attitude.

unforgettable outfits
Cinema and fashion by Jean Paul Gaultier shows the public some of the most recognized outfits not only in the world of cinema but also in the history of fashion. This exhibition gives the opportunity to see some of the most unforgettable outfits up close, such as the uniform worn by Malcolm McDowell in his role as Alex DeLarge in Stanley Kubrick’s ‘A Clockwork Orange’ from 1971, the white coat and dress worn by Sharon Stone in ‘Basic Instinct’ in 1992 or the Yves Saint Laurent dress inspired by Modrian’s painting that launched him to fame in the 60s.
