Dibujo de Emilia Pardo Bazán y Benito Pérez Galdós

Christmas comes to the Cuesta de Moyano by the hand of Soy de La Cuesta

La Navidad llega a la Cuesta de Moyano de la mano de Soy de La Cuesta

This Saturday, December 12 at 12 noon. Different authors such as the authors Rosa Montero, Marta Sanz, Javier Sierra and Luisgé Martin will be in different booths of the Cuesta de Moyano signing copies of their books to support the booksellers in this Christmas 2020 campaign. Juan Luis Roldán, author will also be present of the recently published “Madrid y los Libros” (La Librería, 2020). This action is located within the project #MadridSubelaCuesta, as they did before as ‘Librero por un día’ or ‘Regreso a Moyano’, created by the association citizen ‘Soy de la Cuesta’, which also has the support of the Department of Economy, Innovation and Employment of the Madrid City Council, through the Madrid Capital de Moda project.

On Saturday 12 to 12 noon Rosa Montero will sign at Booth 27 of Paco Gomis, Javier Sierra in Booth 16 of Rafa García; Marta Sanz will be in Booth 11 of Jorge Tkatch and Luisgé Martin in Booth 20 of Jorge and Carlos. In addition, Juan Luis Roldán will sign copies of “Madrid y los Libros” in booth 6 ‘La Clásica’ by Fernando Plaza, one of the deans of Moyano and bookseller who has maintained the family ownership of the booth since the beginning of the Cuesta in 1925 .

Love letters from Emilia Pardo Bazán to Galdós

That same day on Saturday 12th from 12:30, in Booth 22 of the Cuesta de Moyano, there will be a reading of various fragments written by Benito Pérez Galdós by the radio hosts María Eulate (‘Cinco Continentes’ program of RNE), David Felipe Arranz (‘The Bookmark’ of Capital Radio) and Marta González Novo (Hoy por Hoy Madrid, Cadena SER).

It will be a tribute to the centenary of his death and you will be able to enjoy a fragment of some of his works such as ‘El abuelo’, ‘Doña Perfecta’ or ‘España Tragica’. In addition, in that same booth from 1:00 p.m., the actors Mateo Franco and Paula Usero interpret the love letters of Bazán (whose centenary is celebrated in 2021) and Galdós. Mateo Franco will read Emilia Pardo Bazán’s affectionate letters to Galdós, while Paula Usero will respond with fragments of Galdós’s love letters, which have been adapted – in an innovative script written by Franco – as the imagined replicas of his beloved contemporary.

  • Paula Usero, 29-year-old Valencian actress. She moved to Madrid in 2016, after her debut on the big screen in the film El Olivo by Icíar Bollaín, with whom she will repeat in 2019, with La Boda de Rosa, which premiered in August 2020. Since then we have seen her in series like Velvet Collection, Amar es para Siempre, Luimelia, Justo Before Christ or Paquita Salas. He is currently finishing filming La cocinera de Castamar, the next blockbuster by Antena3 and Buendia.
  • Mateo Franco, A Coruña 1993. He acts as a child in Mar do Rostro, where he plays a modern Santiago Apostle. In 2013 he obtained a scholarship for the prestigious study of John Strasberg, who will become his mentor. In 2014-2015 he made his debut as a professional actor on Off Broadway in two productions. He returned to Madrid in 2015 where he made his film debut in the film Baskavigin, which will be presented at the San Sebastián festival 2016. He works for Ana Karenina, at the Pavón Teatro Kaminaze in 2017. In 2018 he creates actuACoruña, a festival for the training of actors where teachers such as Strasberg, Emi Ecay or Carmelo Gómez have passed. He is currently preparing his next projects: A play and a series based on the life of Christopher Columbus. Both written by him.

This wonderful initiative is part of the #MadridSubelaCuesta action plan and aims to serve as a claim so that, after months of confinement, citizens can return to La Cuesta and contribute to the recovery of its mythical commercial and cultural activity.

You already know, put it on your agenda and stop by the Cuesta and support the booksellers in this Christmas campaign.
