The MENINAS arrive to Platea

The MENINAS arrive to Platea

The renowned Madrid entertainment and catering establishment welcomes some of the main protagonists of last spring: Meninas Gallery Madrid!

Almost a year ago, numerous exotic and curious figures conquered the streets of Madrid. Their shapes were recognized at first, but their designs… Those were a real surprise. This project organized by ACOTEX and the Madrid City Council within the framework of Madrid Capital de Moda had as its main objective to transform the famous figures of Velázquez into an icon of the city.

How? By getting 80 different artists to create their own designs using these peculiar statues as canvases.

After the month of July, the Meninas were removed from the streets of Madrid and some of them were installed within different markets of Madrid.

Now, the Meninas are coming back little by little, and their first stop was at Platea, the famous leisure and restoration venue next to the Colón Plaza.
Located between numbers 5 and 7 of Goya Street, Platea is an emblematic site of the capital in which in addition to their usual stores, several especial events are usually held every year.
And now its offer is more unique than ever thanks to the presence of these sculptures previously created for the “Meninas Madrid Gallery” initiative, which was promoted by the Madrid City Council through the Madrid Capital de Moda project.

Until the month of May, all those who come to Platea can enjoy them while tasting a brandy-based cocktail, which their bartenders have created for this occasion inspired by Seville, the city of Velázquez.

Do you want to know which are the Meninas you can find in Platea?

Antonio Azzato is the artist and designer who stamped his style in most of them.

“The Menina of Meninas” that was in IFEMA (in the previous edition) can be found in the theater’s pit, at the lower level. The “Made to Measure Menina” that was in the Cibeles Plaza now greets the Platea visitors from the very entrance. The “Menina Gold Mirror”, which occupied that same location in the past, is now in the upper level, next to Canalla Bistró.

On the other hand, the “Entrepreneur Menina” accompanies the “Menina Lady in Gold”, by the designer Teresa de la Pisa, since both are located on both sides of the venue’s stage.

Don’t hesitate and come have fun in Platea so you can enjoy the Meninas Madrid Gallery experience once again.
